Go Therefore

Go Therefore

Jesus gives the Great Commission and then departs into the heavens. This is the final words of Jesus on earth, and the beginning of a powerful movement that would change the course of human history.

Matthew 28:19-20
After his resurrection, Jesus spends forty days with his disciples, teaching and preparing them for their mission. As his time on earth ends, he leads them to a mountain in Galilee and gives his final instructions, the Great Commission. He commands them to ""go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you."" These words launch a global mission to spread the gospel and establish the church, a mission for all believers throughout history. Jesus promises, ""And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."" This assurance empowers the disciples as they embark on their mission. After giving these instructions, Jesus ascends into heaven. The disciples, filled with the Holy Spirit, go forth to fulfill the Great Commission, preaching, teaching, and baptizing. This mission transforms lives and shapes history, remaining the central mission of the church today.
